In December 2015, the Zero Emissions Byron Project was profiled at the UN Framework Convention for Climate Change COP21 Paris Climate Change Conference, including attending the 100% RE Network Meetings, the Climate Summit for Local Leaders, and the Compact of Mayors event. Byron Shire Mayor Simon Richardson and Beyond Zero Emissions CEO Stephen Bygrave presented the work of Zero Emissions Byron, networking amongst international leaders taking action on climate change.

Byron was part of the historic Compact of Mayors agreement, where over 500 Mayors from hundreds of countries signed agreements to adopt major greenhouse gas emissions policies. These cities represent 5.92% of the entire global population, and if fully implemented over the next 5-10 years, will have a significant contribution to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. This agreement shows the importance of taking action at the local level.
