Tracking the increase in Solar PV installations

Since Zero Emissions Byron began in 2015, the size and number of solar PV installations in the Byron Shire has increased four-fold.
This graph has been compiled from data on the APVI Solar Map[1] for the four Byron postcodes covering Bangalow, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Ocean Shores (2479, 2481, 2482, 2483).

Over 3.5MW were installed in the first half of 2021,” said ZEB Director, Dr Muriel Watt. “Total installed capacity is now over 40MW, with over a quarter of this from systems sized 6.5 – 9.5 kW,” she added.

About 45% of houses in Byron Shire now have solar, which is higher than the NSW average of 26%.

To start, the most popular PV installation size was less than 2.5kW so there has been increased confidence in larger systems and costs have reduced significantly,” added Dr Watt.

There has never been a better or cheaper time to get a solar system - or add to your solar array if you have a relatively small one. If you haven’t had a quote lately, seek one from a local supplier - you may be surprised how prices have dropped.  You may also qualify for a free system if you are a pensioner or veteran - absolutely FREE!  To see if you or someone you know qualifies head to Energy Saver NSW.
